Counseling and Consultation

My counseling philosophy is grounded in an integrative, evidence-based, and trauma-informed approach that honors the uniqueness, dignity, and lived experiences of each client. I view counseling as a collaborative and relational process in which healing and growth occur within a strong therapeutic alliance characterized by empathy, authenticity, cultural humility, and respect. I believe that clients possess inherent strengths and capacities for change, and my role as a counselor is to create a safe, supportive, and empowering environment in which those strengths can be identified and cultivated.

My clinical work is rooted in a person-centered foundation and informed by trauma-responsive care, while integrating cognitive-behavioral, acceptance-based, attachment-focused, family systems, and strength-based approaches. This integrative orientation allows for flexible and developmentally appropriate case conceptualization that attends to individual, relational, cultural, and systemic factors impacting mental health and well-being. Interventions are selected collaboratively and tailored to clients’ presenting concerns, cultural identities, values, and goals, ensuring that counseling remains both effective and responsive.

I am committed to ethical and reflective practice guided by the American Counseling Association Code of Ethics, evidence-based research, and ongoing supervision and consultation. Ethical decision-making is approached as an active, intentional process that prioritizes client welfare, informed consent, professional boundaries, and cultural considerations. I engage in continuous self-reflection to examine the influence of my own identities, values, and potential biases on the counseling relationship, recognizing that ethical practice and multicultural competence are inseparable.

Multicultural awareness and social justice advocacy are integral components of my counseling philosophy. I strive to practice with cultural humility by honoring diverse identities related to race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, ability status, age, veteran status, and socioeconomic context. My work emphasizes culturally sustaining practices and acknowledges the impact of systemic inequities, oppression, and barriers to care on client experiences. When appropriate, counseling includes advocacy efforts aimed at supporting clients beyond the therapy room and promoting access, equity, and empowerment.

As a licensed professional counselor, supervisor, and doctoral learner, I view professional growth as an ongoing responsibility. I am committed to lifelong learning, clinical excellence, supervision, and leadership within the counseling profession. My counseling philosophy reflects a dedication to advancing ethical practice, fostering resilience and healing, and supporting individuals, couples, and families as they move toward greater self-awareness, emotional regulation, and meaningful, fulfilling lives.
